- To blue-throat destroyer of karma's bonds - salutations to Shiva.
- शर्मदाय नर्यभस्मकण्ठ ते नमः शिवाय

- To the neck served by desireless rishis - salutations to Shiva.

Nilakantha breaks karma-pasha and gives sharma while ash on the throat recalls conquered desire. Rishis without mamarsha serve his upakantha because the egoless mind rests naturally at the Lord's feet.
