- Free from all desire for sense-objects, with tears of bliss and horripilation, exceedingly pure, foremost messenger of Sita's Lord, son of the Wind; today I contemplate him in my heart.
Hanuman in the heart is devotion purified of craving, where rapture arises not from objects but from the Self. The messenger of Rama's Lordship carries the teaching that the divine dwells within as the witness of all desire.

- With a lotus face red as the young dawn sun, corners of his eyes filled with the essence of compassion; I seek life from him of charming glory, blessed by Anjana.
Compassion that fills the eyes is the natural response when the heart recognizes the one Self in all beings. The life-giving grace sought from Hanuman is the awakening of that recognition within.

- Foe of Sambara's enemy, noble with eyes wide as lotus petals, conch-like neck, appointed by the Wind, with lips bright as the bimba fruit; in him alone I take refuge.
Refuge in the noble servant of the Lord is refuge in the ideal of selfless action performed without claim. Wide lotus eyes see the world as the play of the one reality, not as a field of separate interests.

- He who removed Sita's grief, who manifested the splendour of Rama's glory, who tore apart the fame of the ten-faced one; may Hanuman's form shine before me.
Ending Sita's sorrow and shattering Ravana's pride symbolize the dissolution of suffering born of separation and the ego's claim to power. When the Lord's glory shines forth, the ten senses no longer rule the mind.

- Chief of the monkey hosts, like the sun to the night-lilies of the demon race, vowed to protecting the distressed, ripened fruit of the Wind's austerities; I beheld him.
He who protects the distressed acts from the certainty that the Lord's power works through the humble instrument. The ripened fruit of tapas is not supernatural power but the egoless readiness to serve the Self in all.
