Word breakdown

how was the fierce flame that terrifies all gods seen by You
what is held in the hand; is it ripe jambu fruit in the palm
what is placed on the tongue; the siddha pill, or borne at the throat
what is Your ornament, O Shambhu, O great soul, tell me

The poet marvels at Shiva's paradoxes: terror to gods yet holding fruit, poison and jewel alike. The Lord transcends opposites; what seems contradiction in form points to consciousness beyond all categories.
