to the eternal of three-guna nature, city-conqueror, Katyayani's welfare
to the true primal family-man, direct consciousness-form to sages' minds
wanderer to all Veda-ends of three-world illusion-creation
to the matted-haired one of evening dance-turmoil, this obeisance, O Shambhu

Evening salutation honours Shiva as eternal consciousness beyond three gunas. He is welfare, truth and illusion's source; morning and evening praise mark the devotee's day centred in the Self.
