Word breakdown

thinking this body will perish, mind is hard
I shall see the gentle foot-placement on mountain-border practised before
if not in divine houses on flower-couches and Vedas
why then dance on stone-slabs, O Shambhu

The poet questions why Shiva dances on hard stone if feet are soft. Body's hardness should not meet the Lord's gentle feet; devotion asks the divine to dwell where comfort matches tenderness.
