Study note
Word breakdown
- अङ्गं गलितं पलितं मुण्डं
- The body has drooped, hair turned grey,
- दशनविहीनं जातं तुण्डम् ।
- teeth gone, mouth become a stump.
- वृद्धो याति गृहीत्वा दण्डं
- The old man walks with a stick,
- तदपि न मुञ्चत्याशापिण्डम् ॥१५॥
- yet still does not release the bundle of hope.
Physical old age does not itself release the knot of expectation. The body declines but the mind's clinging persists until true knowledge cuts the root of desire.
