अग्रे वह्निः पृष्ठे भानुः रात्रौ चुबुकसमर्पितजानुः । करतलभिक्षस्तरुतलवासः तदपि न मुञ्चत्याशापाशः ॥१६॥

Word breakdown
- अग्रे वह्निः पृष्ठे भानुः
- Before him fire, behind the sun,
- रात्रौ चुबुकसमर्पितजानुः ।
- at night knees joined to chin,
- करतलभिक्षस्तरुतलवासः
- alms in hand, dwelling at the foot of trees -
- तदपि न मुञ्चत्याशापाशः ॥१६॥
- yet the rope of hope does not release him.
Even severe hardship and renunciation need not undo the rope of longing. Extreme austerity without Self-knowledge leaves the core of bondage untouched.
