यदा पुत्रमित्रादयो मत्सकाशे रुदन्त्यस्य हा कीदृशीयं दशेति तदा देवदेवेश गौरीश शम्भो नमस्ते शिवायेत्यजस्रं ब्रवाणि ॥२३॥

Word breakdown
- यदा पुत्रमित्रादयो मत्सकाशे
- When sons and friends before me cry,
- रुदन्त्यस्य हा कीदृशीयं दशेति
- 'Alas, what sort of state is this!'
- तदा देवदेवेश गौरीश शम्भो
- then, O Lord of gods, O Gauri's Lord, Shambhu,
- नमस्ते शिवायेत्यजस्रं ब्रवाणि
- I shall ceaselessly repeat 'Salutation to Shiva.'
While loved ones mourn the dying body, the devotee resolves to repeat only 'Namah Shivaya.' Outer grief and inner remembrance diverge as the soul turns from the perishing form to the eternal Lord.
