Word breakdown
- यदा यातनादेहसन्देहवाही
- When the body bearing pain and doubt becomes mine,
- भवेदात्मदेहे न मोहो महान्मे
- and great delusion is not in the body of the Self,
- तदा काशशीतांशुसङ्काशमीश
- then, O Lord shining like the cool-rayed moon,
- स्मरारे वपुस्ते नमस्ते स्मराणि
- O foe of Smara, I remember your form; salutation to you.
When pain grips the body but delusion no longer grips the Self, the moon-bright form of Shiva remains in memory. The distinction between body-suffering and Self-awareness is the dawn of liberation.
