About this stotra

Krishnashtakam, opening with *vasudevasutaṃ devaṃ*, is a beloved eight-verse hymn traditionally attributed to Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Each verse closes with *kṛṣṇaṃ vande jagadgurum*: I salute Krishna, teacher of the world.

The verses unfold Krishna's form and glory: slayer of Kamsa, adorned with jewels, dark as a raincloud, sporting with Rukmini, and bearing the insignia of Vishnu. It is widely recited at dawn.
