भैरवः
Lord Bhairava
Fierce guardian of Kashi
Kalabhairavashtakam praises the terrifying yet compassionate form of Shiva who guards the sacred city and destroys the devotee's fear, pride, and procrastination on the path of truth. Bhairava is the Lord who enforces sincerity: he will not let the seeker hide behind delay or pretence.
The eight-verse ashtakam is short enough for daily repetition yet dense with names and attributes of the fierce guardian. Devotees in Kashi tradition know Bhairava as the one who keeps time and cuts through excuse. An editorial Advaita reading may see him as the force that destroys the false self's evasions.
Use this hymn when you need sharp remembrance rather than gentle consolation.
